Adams Race Across America

Adam's Story

May's run is a special 5 km fundraising for local adventurer Adam Anstey who is taking part in Race across America.

Adam developed a passion for adventure, the great outdoors, endurance and human performance at an early age and has continued to develop his list of endeavours to date.  He is a competitive runner, triathlete, swimmer and a not so competitive surfer.

He has completed many marathons, ultra-marathons, long distance sea swims, ironman events; rock climbed a few walls and led various expeditions to the Himalayas.

Adam is raising awareness and funds for the charity Tusk, who find solutions to protect endangered species, combat the illegal wildlife trade, empower local communities and promote environmental education. He works as the Director of IT at an independent school in Sherborne and he is the Directeur sportif for the local Sherborne cycling team. He currently resides on a farm in Dorset where the hills provide some epic backdrops for preparing to Race Across America.

To help Adam achieve his goal we are donating profits from our May 5 km event to Adam.  The race will start from The Terraces in Sherborne at 08.30 on May 12th, its a 5 km your way, run it, walk it do it with the dog. Here is Adam's story

I am extremely keen to support the Sherborne community, the people who live here and local businsesses who make the town so unique. I love living around here and think we have so much to offer and my intention is to use this platform as a way of attracting more people to the beautiful town of Sherborne and the areas surrounding.

As part of a team, in June, I will race 3000 miles, across 12 states, and climb over 170,000 vertical feet in under 9 days in what is recognised as the toughest bike race on the planet. Dates: June 11th - 26th.

Event Website

Race Across America (RAAM) is one of the most respected and longest running ultra- endurance events in the world.

RAAM is seen as a pinnacle of athletic achievement not only in cycling circles but the greater sporting community as well. There is no other race in the world like RAAM. There is no race that combines the distance, terrain and weather; no other event that tests a team’s spirit from beginning to end. The Race inspires everyone who has been a part of it - racer, crew, staff and fans alike. RAAM is the true test of speed, endurance, strength and camaraderie, something which I feel are essential skills and traits.

The charity

Adam is fundraising for Tusk who are a local charity based in Gillingham. Tusk’s mission is to amplify the impact of progressive conservation initiatives across Africa and in doing so ensure that our children are able to experience the incredible animals and landscapes that inhabit the hugely rich ecosystem of the continent.

The charity has earned a reputation for providing a highly efficient solution for funding wildlife conservation programmes. They partner with the most effective local organisations, investing in their in-depth knowledge and expertise. By supporting and nurturing their conservation programmes, they help accelerate growth from an innovative idea to a scalable solution.  For almost 30 years, they have helped pioneer an impressive range of successful conservation initiatives across more than 20 countries, increasing vital protection for over 10 million acres of land and more than 40 different threatened species. But the threat to Africa’s unique natural heritage remains real and more urgent than ever.  Through the Race Across America, and with your generous support, Tusk can, and will, continue to have a positive impact across Africa.
